Radio4 est une radio à vocation plus généraliste que France Culture, mais son choix de l' "intelligent speech", sa quête perpétuelle de nouvelles terres radiophoniques à explorer, son appétit d'élévation de connaissances en font un incontournable de l'écoute culturelle. Fictions, lectures, documentaires, jeux, comédies etc. : il y aura de nombreux tuyaux à se refiler. Ce sont plus de cinquante ans d'expérience radiophoniques qui continuent à émettre...
La station est écoutable par Internet, mais si vous n'habitez pas trop loin des côtes britanniques, il faut essayer les grandes ondes (198).

A ne surtout pas rater en ce moment : "Proust's Overcoat, The story of one man's pursuit of the relics of his literary hero, Marcel Proust."

Je suis toujours admiratif de l'astuce qu'ont ces auteurs de fiction pour illustrer un sujet avec l'angle le plus original possible.

Ce jeudi 3 février commence la Chandler Season :


"BBC Radio 4 presents dramatisations of all Raymond Chandler's Philip Marlowe novels, with Toby Stephens playing Philip Marlowe throughout.

Philip Marlowe is a moral man in an amoral world. California in the 1940s and 1950s is as beautiful as a ripe fruit and rotten to the core, reflecting all the tarnished glitter of the American Dream.

The police are corrupt, the businessmen well-heeled racketeers with politicians in their pockets and their daughters have gone to the bad.

The taxi-drivers, maids and bartenders restore Marlowe's faith in human nature - scratching out a living at the bottom of the pile, Marlowe is there with them, in his shabby office with its cracked sign and no air-con, waiting for the next client to walk through the door.

Alison Hindell, Head of Audio Drama, says: "Classic Chandler is collectors' stuff. The Philip Marlowe stories cover the full range of Chandler's characters including some very tricky women; the crystalline sense of period and place; the plots - byzantine with their twists and turns, seductions and knock-out punches: all are presented together for the first time as a complete set.

Add to that the superbly focused scripts by Robin Brooks and Stephen Wyatt along with Toby Stephens's sharp interpretation of Marlowe and the result is a memorable experience. And in addition, I found that, although the mood and the tone are definitely noir, the imagination is fired into full colour by these productions. The power of radio."

On pourra écouter entre autres : A coat, a hat and a gun ; The Big Sleep, Lady in the Lake, Double Jeopardy, Farewell My Lovely, bref, de quoi réveiller des souvenirs de film noir........

Lorsque ce qui reste de fiction à France Culture ne convainq pas, il est toujours utile de jeter un coup d'oeil ici (la rubrique Drama) :

Et à l'intérieur, l'émission "Classic Serial", qui adapte des classiques avec talent (souvent). Cette semaine, ce sont les Ambassadeurs, de Henry James. Deux épisodes d'une heure, remarquablement bien mis en ondes. Il faut se dépêcher car la réécoute n'est disponible que le temps d'une semaine, et dans ce cas, l'épisode 2 sera retiré dans quelques heures...
